Role play: two people shaking hands

Case study 8: Dyslexia and Access to Work

The employee is a Modern Apprentice (Technical Switch/Data) who has dyslexia. Minty & Friend have supported him in his first formal exploration of his dyslexia in relation to work.

How Minty & Friend helped

Minty & Friend have co-ordinated a specialist assessment through ‘Access to Work' which has identified several needs including software and IT accessories to enable Robert to achieve optimum performance at work.

Benefits to the client

  • The client has had an independent assessment made to ensure their employee is content and efficient at work.
  • Cost savings from avoiding lengthy investigations into resources.
  • Management time saved on consulting on requirements and ‘trial and error' alternatives.
  • Employee is more efficient at work and more quickly
  • Colleagues can see the effective steps taken.

Added value

On completion of the assessment the employee stated that he wished he had received a similar assessment 10 years ago when at school and that he had no idea of the assistance that was available.

The employee has gone on to recommend the Minty & Friend service to a colleague who also has dyslexia.
