"45,000 public bodies across Great Britain are covered by the Disability Equality Duty (DED)."

The Disability Equality Duty legislation came into force on 4th December 2006.
The new law requires the public sector to promote disability and ensure that disabled people are treated equally. Those covered by the duty are required to produce and implement a Disability Equality Scheme and report on their progress, working towards positive change.
